Proven Tips To Boost Your Public Speaking And Presentation Skills (Part 15)

It always pays dividends to visit a Toastmasters Club. Tonight at the AIA Changi Toastmasters Club, not only was the meeting intense, the learning was also immense. There were so many different styles of presentation along with the varied project objectives. I’m sure the audience was captivated by the speeches, especially those that made full use of the body language and those that were designed to be entertaining.

After listening to the speeches, some of the public speaking tips I have shared include:

1. Avoid over-concentrating on one side of the stage. While speakers may somethings have a preference on the stage, its their responsibility to ensure the audience through the whole room are well catered for.

2. While detailed descriptions can be essential, a speaker should also emote and add his emotions into the speech. This will allow better engagement of the audience’s mind and the heart.

3. Remember your center of gravity. Avoid the swaying and pacing, instead have your posture become more grounding by visualizing that your feet are firmed planted onto the stage. This is not to say you cannot move when speaking, it’s to allow you to take firm steps and display a sense of impact.

4. Do understand that an informative speech can also be entertaining as well. It is in the appropriate peppering of puns, wit or interesting examples that your speech moves beyond a factual report.

Once again, everyone had benefited much from tonight’s meeting. It was truly an ideal place for anyone to Excel Beyond Excellence in their speeches!
